Reciprocal Reading
Reciprocal reading is used with reading comprehension exercises. Each student is assigned a different role in the group and performs set tasks. Take a look at some example roles and the part they might play in a reciprocal reading task:
Predictor: To make predictions about the text content before reading based on title, headings, and pictures.
Summarizer: To identify the main ideas of each section of the text and make a summary about the text.
Questioner: To raise questions that can help you and group members to understand the gist of the text.
Clarifier: To find out confusing parts such as words, phrases, passages that you cannot follow in the text and try to figure them out.
Interpreter: To identify the relationship between the sentences or paragraphs that are connected by signal /linking words.
